This Years Winner

Stephen Burton, Annton Nurseries, Cambridge. Stephen receives the Carann trophy to keep for one year and a miniature, plus an all expenses trip to visit the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show next April.

 

 

Runner Up

The Runner-up, Paul Jameson, Waimea Nurseries, Nelson, has been selected to go forward as the Nursery and Garden Industry Sector Finalist in the inaugural Young Horticulturist of the Year 2005, which is being held in November during this year’s Ellerslie Flower Show. Both he and the other Finalist, Daniel Doland, receive a $500 training credit for an NZHITO course of their choice.

 

 

Finalists in Carann Young Achiever Award 2005

Stephen Burton, 31 years of age and Managing Director of Annton Nurseries. Stephen employs around 20 full time staff and supplies predominantly native plants to garden centres and landscapers all over the North Island. Stephen was a Finalist in the Carann Young Achiever Award in 2004 and while he has applied himself to developing growth in the nursery, his proudest moment in the last 12 months was when he and partner Tracey welcomed the arrival of son, Kieran, into the world.

 

 

Daniel Doland has had an interest in horticulture since the age of 15, studying at school and working part-time at the Wholesale Tree Company. At 22 and Key Account Manager for Zealandia Nursery Ltd, Auckland, he attributes much of what he applies in his job to what he gained from studies at Manukau Institute of Technology, receiving two National Certificates in Horticulture (in Nursery Production and Amenity Horticulture) and a Diploma in Horticulture in Nursery Production.

 

 

Paul Jameson, at 27 years of age, is Ornamental Manager for Waimea Nurseries in Nelson. This encompasses open ground production of some 45,000 ornamental plants, many of which are supplied on indent to garden retailers and landscapers nationwide. He achieved a National Certificate in Horticulture and Nursery production and is nearing completion of a National Certificate in Amenity Horticulture.
